Keep Your Pets Safe During A Storm With These 10 Foul-Weather Tips

Storms of any kind — be it a hurricane, tornado, or flash flood — can be frightening to both humans and their furry counterparts. But storms will occur, and when they do, it’s important to be prepared to help yourself and your pet get through any bout of strong weather safely. Here are a few ways you can keep yourself and your pet safe during a storm.

10. Have a Plan and Stick to It

Have an emergency plan already in place for such occurrences. The plan should start with bringing your pet inside, and you should practice getting to a safe space in your home. For instance, this might be a cellar in the event of a tornado, or a sturdy room for rainstorms and hurricanes. Practice your plan so that when an emergency situation does happen, you can execute the plan without problem.

9. Keep a Pet Emergency Kit

In case you have to hunker down for a while or even go to a safe shelter, keep a pet emergency kit on hand. This kit should include food and water, sanitation items, necessary medication, veterinary papers, calming treats, a toy or two, and a blanket or sweatshirt that smells like home to comfort your special friend.
