Jonathon and Kach Howe are a husband-and-wife team who travel the world together, making memories while making money and sharing the tips they learn along the way. They have a sailing, luxury, and travel blog under the name Two Monkeys Travel Group, and they’ve visited over 100 countries and all 7 continents.
They’re currently on a sailing adventure with their cat, Captain Ahab, and last summer, they added a new member to their yacht club: a tiny rescue kitten named Zissou.
In the summer of 2018, Zissou was found struggling to survive in a drainage pipe in El Javillar, Dominican Republic, when he was just a few weeks old.
The Howes were in the area at the time, and Zissou looked very similar to their resident sailor kitty. Captain Ahab had been adopted from the Florida Keys SPCA a couple years earlier, and they had been thinking about getting him a playmate. They decided that Zissou, who closely resembled Captain Ahab, needed to be the newest addition to their family.
Zissou got his vaccines and a check-up at the vet, and then came on board the Howes’ boat. Jonathon and Kach nursed him back to health and gave him lots of love and affection. The tiny rescue had some skin problems, fleas, and ear mites, and needed lots of baths and treatments, but eventually became totally healthy.

Zissou and Captain Ahab bonded quickly — after a brief period of adjustment. While Zissou immediately loved his older brother, the veteran sailor was a little skeptical of his new first mate.
“Our big boy was hissing at him, but the next day, he was already licking and cleaning Zissou,” Kach told Love Meow.
After that, it was smooth sailing! According to Kach’s blog: “Captain Ahab loves him so much and acting like a big brother.. they actually sleep, play and talk to each other.. they meow and have this funny blinking conversation!”
When Zissou was healthy and a bit bigger, they even taught him how to swim back to the boat in case he ever found himself in the water. His big brother already knew how, and Zissou quickly followed suit. All of the baths he’d had while he was sick had helped him get used to being in water.
Captain Ahab has been a good older brother to Zissou, teaching him how to clean himself and eat the right food, how to use the litter box, and how to navigate the boat. The two are never far apart, and spend their days lounging in the sunshine, watching birds, and playing together.
Every morning, the two brothers cheerfully wake their parents with synchronized meows.
They have their differences, of course.
“The little one is very playful while his brother is really chilled and calm,” Kach told Love Meow. “Zissou needs attention all the time. He would always sleep on your lap or follow us around.”
These two cuties are clearly living their best life!
