Typically, when people see a Tweet go out about an animal in need of adoption, they like it, maybe share it, and hope that the animal finds a great home. Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish had a different reaction when the following Tweet was brought to his attention.
This sweet girl goes to the pound tomorrow if she’s not adopted. Anyone wanna adopt? Helping out a friend. RT if you can. pic.twitter.com/OgxsqnkGFI

Yu saw the request for help at 11 p.m. on a Thursday through a friend’s Twitter feed. By Friday morning, he and his wife had decided they needed to to take Sage in. The pair already cared for 5 dogs, but after careful consideration, they knew they could fit one more into their brood.

The Rangers star has always loved animals and believes in rescuing over buying animals. Talking to The Star Telegram, Darvish made a plea that people do what they can to help, but also make sure they aren’t going to take on too much.
“Before you get a dog think about what you need to do to take care of it,” he said. “I don’t want people to think, ‘oh, he can take care of 20 dogs, 30 dogs.’ I got what I can be responsible for. Make sure you take care of your dog.”
It’s wonderful to know that Sage found a caring and loving home, and we hope countless people are inspired by Darvish’s actions!
