The holidays are always best when you celebrate with friends. FURRY ONES TOO! This year, all my fur babies are getting dog-friendly challah and latkes! YUMMM! We will also include them in the lighting of the candles. And if they really behave themselves, then we will top things off with homemade applesauce for dessert. Delish!
I love celebrating Chanukah. The 8 nights are always filled with smiles, lots of yummy food, and presents. My kids love it too. The four-legged ones as well. I’m so excited that the first night of Chanukah this year falls on Christmas Eve. It makes it even more special… and festive!
Here are some fun facts about Chanukah:
1. Chanukah also goes by “Festival of Lights” and “Feast of Dedication.” As if that wasn’t confusing enough, there are also several ways to spell “Chanukah” in the English language: Hanukkah, Chanukah, Hannuka.
2. While Chanukah isn’t considered a major Jewish holiday, such as Yom Kippur, it is gaining a bigger sentiment to many Jewish families in countries that celebrate Christmas, since it’s the closest equivalent.
3. You place the candles right to left on the Menorah, like when you read the Hebrew language, but you actually light the candles left to right, always lighting the new night first, after you light the shamash candle (which is used to light the others).
Here’s an adorable Yappy Chanukha video I think you will enjoy!
