Velvet Land Hippo “Rose” Needs an Understanding Forever Home

Meet Rose, a full-figured gal who was adopted out and sadly returned to the San Diego Humane Society’s care in February of 2023. There’s no way of knowing everything that Rose has been put through in her life, but her ears have been overly cropped, and it’s obvious she’s been bred more than once.

You can draw your own conclusions, but Rose needs a stable environment filled with love and patience where she can adjust and be your only princess. In fact, it’s been recommended that Rose lives in a home without cats, other dogs, or kids. This is what SDHS has to say about her.

Velvet Hippos

Why this pet is the one for you:

“Rose is an adorable land-hippo! She’s sweet and loving with people and will solicit lots of attention. She may even try to climb into your lap for cuddles! She loves a good leash walk. When Rose was adopted and living with her previous family, she did not like to share her toys or treats.

“We think Rose will do best in a quiet adult home as an only dog. We believe that once Rose settles in and is comfortable, some of her difficulty with sharing may fade.”

“Our Behavior Team will have a chat with Rose’s new family to make suggestions on how to help Rose get adjusted and make suggestions on how you can help her learn how to be the best girl she can be!

“If you would like to meet Rose, grab a leash and collar and head to our Escondido Campus. Rose is vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. She is an American bully mix who is believed to be 6 years old and weighs approximately 85 pounds, and she’s ready for her new home!”
