Man Builds Tiny Outdoor Restaurant For Squirrels Complete With Small Picnic Tables And A Menu

The current stay-at-home order in Michigan allowed one man to pursue one of his dreams – opening a restaurant. His goal was not to feed humans but squirrels.

James Vreeland used the extra time at home to build an entire outdoor eatery, which included small picnic tables and a picket fence for his bushy-tailed friends. Squirrel statues, a miniature coat rack, and a hostess stand completed the restaurant, which is appropriately named Maison De Noix – French for “The Nut House”.

Vreeland posted photos of his new restaurant, which is in his front yard, on Instagram with the caption, “Figured now was as good a time as any to get into the restaurant game.”

It didn’t take long for the squirrels to partake in the delicious food.

Mixed seeds, stale bread/pizza crust, raw peanuts, and counter softened apples were placed on top of the picnic tables for the squirrels to eat at their leisure. Just like other restaurants, Maison De Noix had a lunch/brunch rush.

Vreeland posted a video of the local squirrels darting into the restaurant for a quick bite. They seemed to prefer the nuts and seeds over the bread and quickly emptied the bowls.

Squirrels are not the only ones nuts about the new eatery – animal lovers are commending Vreeland on his adorable creation.

One person wrote, “This is so great! Thank you for having a kind heart! 😚🐿❤️”. Another said, “So in love with this idea! You’re awesome.”

Vreeland spent roughly three hours building the restaurant and it was all done with scrap wood. He offers a live stream of Maison De Noix, when weather permits.

The local squirrels don’t have to worry about Maison De Noix closing because it is deemed essential, or as Vreeland put it, “a food bank”.

He encourages others to follow in his footsteps and “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Watch the squirrels devour the tasty treats in the video below and don’t forget to share.
