Two therapy dogs, Jazz and Murph, love their job and humans, but have also fallen madly in love with each other. All it took was one sniff. However, since then the pair has always been at least two feet apart – a therapy dog rule.
Jazz and Murph are two of over 100 therapy dogs at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Every year, the therapy program hosts a community outreach activity and this year they decided to host a wedding for Jazz and Murph.
A wedding website complete with a registry was created with all the proceeds going to Charleston Animal Society. The dogs asked that everyone donate to help shelter pets in lieu of gifts. The local animal shelter helps more than 20,000 animals in the Charleston area annually.
Cathy Bennett, Pet Therapy Coordinator, said, “This has been the hardest wedding I have EVER put together.” It was also the first wedding she has every coordinated, she added with a laugh.
She went on to say that Jazz and Murph “whine and yearn to be a couple, so why not go ahead and make this legal.”
Over 100 guests and 30 dogs attended the wedding that took place on the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day. The canine couple “tied the leash” at St. Luke’s Chapel on the university’s campus in downtown Charleston, SC.
In place of rings, large glitter hearts were placed around the dogs’ necks, that they wore with pride.
No detail was spared. The beautiful bride wore a veil while the groom sported a tux and guests blew bubbles at the happy pair as they exited the church. The bridal party included other therapy dogs all dressed up in red bows and tulle.

As if the day wasn’t sweet enough, all human guests were given heart suckers after the ceremony. The lawn outside the chapel was then filled with human and canine guests admiring the happy couple, who were posing for wedding photos.
It was a joyous day and one that the community will not soon forget. All you need is love and when you adopt you get unconditional love. Visit your local shelter and adopt a new best friend.
