Peacocks are show-offs, and they want everyone to know it; at the very least, they want the lady peacocks to know it. All of their colorful feathers and massive tail displays are all part of making themselves more attractive for their female counterparts.
As part of their mating ritual, the male peafowl displays and shimmies his magnificent plumage — which, to the ultraviolet-sensitive eye of a peahen, looks even more brilliant than we can imagine.
The colorful birds we all know and love come from two different areas of the world, with two species of the bird inhabiting the Asian countries of Indian and Sri Lanka, while another species has typically been found in the African country of Congo.
