The Best Videos from National Dog Day

The 10th anniversary of National Dog Day was Aug. 26. This nationwide celebration of dogs saw people sharing photos and videos of their four-legged best friends on social media websites like Twitter and Facebook.

The hashtag #NationalDogDay was a popular trending topic on Aug. 26 as people shared videos and stories that included good deeds like donating blankets, food and toys to animal welfare organizations.

According to USA Today, Collee Paige founded National Dog Day 10 years ago to celebrate dogs "for their endearing patience, unquestioning loyalty, for their work protecting our streets, homes and families as Police K-9s, Military Working Dogs, Guide Dogs and Therapy Dogs," she told the source.

The source showcased a number of videos from National Dog Day:

Swimming with the dogs
Several dogs kicked off the holiday with a part in a bone-shaped pool at a canine day care center in Michigan. They all ran around and swam in the pool to cool off from the hot weather.

A dog and elephant best friend at Myrtle Beach Safari spent the day frolicking in the water. The two, named Bella and Bubbles, frequently hang together despite the rescue animals being an unlikely pair.

The Dock Dogs World Championship was held at Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta and saw more than 150 dogs take a leap of faith into the water below. There's a platform the dogs run down before they jump into the 40-foot pool, trying to go farther, higher and faster than all the others when their owners throw objects into the water.
