Lizzy, a Great Dane from Florida, is the world’s tallest living female dog, standing at 3 feet and 1.96 inches tall! She was measured for the Guinness World Record by professional veterinarians in her hometown of Fort Myers when she was seven years old.
According to her owner, Greg Sample, Lizzy has been this tall since she was three years old, and he had to use a miniature pony measuring tool since there wasn’t a dog one big enough to use on her. Of course she always draws attention on her walks, and people are always stopping to meet her and take pictures of her. She’s quite the celebrity!
Since she’s so tall, her food bowl has to be on a chair, and her water bowl stays in the garage because she makes too much of a mess. Although she has since grown into her giant paws, when she was a puppy she was extremely clumsy because they were too big for her body.
Lizzy may be the tallest female dog, but she is the least bit intimidating. She’s extremely laid back and enjoys car rides with her human.
Believe it or not, Lizzy is not the world’s largest dog. The tallest dog ever was another Great Dane named Zeus. He was from Otsego, Michigan, and stood at 3 feet, 8 inches. Sadly, he passed away a couple of years ago, but his record remains.
