There is no love like a mother’s love.
A stray cat in Istanbul, Turkey, was desperate for help for her sick kitten, so she brought her baby to a place that she knew could help – the local hospital.
Photos of the loving mother carrying her baby in her mouth as she entered the emergency room have gone viral. Merve Özcan tweeted the photos showing the paramedics rushing over to help. The translated caption said, “Today we were in the emergency of the hospital, a cat brought her baby in her mouth to the emergency room.”
The heartwarming story has been shared on multiple social media platforms with over 83k people liking it on Reddit.
One photo showed mama cat looking up at the medics as they carefully examined her kitten. Another image showed them comforting mama while her kitten was treated. The devoted mom never took her eyes off her kitten.
In one of the photos, the kitten is pictured with its hind legs splayed laterally and appeared to be unable to stand or walk. Although it has not been confirmed, many people believe the kitten suffers from swimmer syndrome – a congenital condition that typically affects the hind legs.
“Looks like swimmer syndrome, which is treatable for such a young kitten,” wrote one user.
A local news source said the kitten was examined and mama was offered food before heading to a vet for further care.
Both cats are in good hands, with many users commenting that Turkish people treat stray cats and dogs as pets. “In Turkey, stray cats and dogs are like everyone’s pet. You can see food and water for these friends on every corner. Cats are welcome to sleep and live in mosques etc. It’s a beautiful place for stray animals.” Another person said, “Istanbul does an AMAZING job with the stray animals. They vaccine them and store owners let the dogs sleep inside when it’s raining. They are citizens of the city too and other places really should take notes.”
Mothers will go to great lengths to care and protect their young, just like this mama did. People commended the mama cat and wrote, “Clever kitty”, “Best thing I have seen all day”, and “So wholesome! Love the smart cat and how eager everyone seemed to help.”
