That’s when Lock and her children went to Best Friends Animal Society in Salt Lake City to see the adoptable dogs. They quickly came upon a dog named Stella, a 1-year-old boxer mix, and never looked back. It was love at first sight.
According to the article, Stella has brought joy and well-being to the entire family in numerous ways. Having Stella around has helped Lock with her mental health and mood while going through treatment. Yet Stella is just the pup that Lock’s children Ruby, 9, and Andres, 6, need as a great, fun playmate.
After bringing home Stella, Lock, who had recently completed chemotherapy, was going through a lot of treatment including radiation with additional surgeries on the horizon. Lock said that daily walks with Stella helped improve her mood and energy level as well.
Not only did Stella help Lock during some of the most difficult parts of recovery, the rescue dog helped the children get through that same traumatic time with their mother who now is cancer free and in remission from both of her cancers.
“She credits her rescue pet with helping her get through the experience,” the article said.
Stella is a welcome addition to a family who has come through difficult times and has come out on top.
