Police officers found a puppy on the brink of death, abandoned in a crate in North Austin, Texas. She weighed just nine pounds and was unable to walk or stand up. She was covered in feces and urine and was soaked in rain water.
They rushed her to Austin Animal Center for treatment, but vets were not confident that she’d survive. Vet tech Elizabeth Mancera worked around the clock to keep the poor pup alive. She bathed her, put a catheter in her, and blow-dried warm air on her to bring her temperature back up.
Mancera decided to take the puppy home with her and named her Sophie. She kept taking such great care of her, nursing her back to health. Two months later, Sophie is doing great! She looks like a whole new dog, thanks to Mancera and her rescuers! She now lives with Mancera and her other rescue dog!
