Rocco, an eight-year-old Labrador-Pit Bull mix, has been surrendered to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) twice by two different owners. His original owner was moving and couldn’t take him with him. His second owner could no longer afford to care for him when he found out Rocco was sick.
Four months ago, Rocco was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At first, treatment looked like it would be lead him on the road to recovery, but sadly, it’s no longer working.
MCACC didn’t know how much time they had left with Rocco, so they wanted to make his last days as great as possible for him. They decided to come up with a bucket list of fun things to do with him to make his time left on Earth a little more exciting.
Right now he is living with a foster who is taking great care of him and giving him all the love in the world. His foster dad, Michael Mosteller, is a war veteran who suffers from PTSD, so Rocco has also been there to comfort him in return.
The first item on Rocco’s bucket list that has been checked off was taking a ride on a firetruck with the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. Other things on his bucket list includes: A Phoenix Suns practice, becoming an honorary canine with the local police department, running the bases at the Cubs spring training facility, among many other things.
