The wildfires in California’s Napa Valley have destroyed thousands of homes, leaving many families with literally nothing but ashes and sorrow.
At least 40 people died in the fires, and many more are suffering from exposure.
Laura Ringenberger lost her home in the fire, Nicer Days reports, and her family’s cat was nowhere to be found.
She may have feared the worst, but days later, once the fires died down, Ringenberger returned to her former home. An ABC 10 News reporter gave her a ride to the property, where she walked around calling for her cat.
“Here, kitty kitty,” Ringenberger called out.
For a while, nothing. And then…
“She came out about 20 minutes after we got there,” she told Love Meow. “I called for her for a while. Eventually I heard her off in the distance, crying. It was really surreal.”
Ringenberger is one of a lucky few who have been miraculously reunited with lost pets after the wildfires. The others have been just as amazed to find their furry friends alive after the blazes had destroyed their homes. In one case, a black labrador kept safe from the fire and returned home after the fire had died down. In another, a pair of dogs led a family’s flock of goats to safety, and kept each one alive.
This rescue is just as emotional and provides the hope many are in need of after such massive losses.
“The fact that she was okay, and she was right there…it was a crazy moment,” Ringerberger said.
