The story of how Cassidy Tabby got his name is a unique one. He was a stray living in an alley and a volunteer picked him up and took him to Chicago Cat Rescue. In the car ride over to the shelter, his rescuer passed by multiple Cassidy Tires stores and the name stuck. Later, the cat was placed in a loving home with Christina Tran, who found inspiration in this feline to write a children’s book.
One evening Tran had a dream about her sleepy cat driving a taxi. She subsequently wrote a rhyming story called “Cat Cabby” full of colorful pictures.
Tran is legally blind, yet has been an animal lover and supporter throughout her life. During childhood she cared for dogs, cats, goats and chickens. When she moved to the Windy City, she worked as a professional pet sitter.
With three cat books for kids under her belt, Tran plans on writing more children’s books. Her goal is to spread the values of self-esteem, diversity and other positive social constructs.
Chicago Cat Rescue is a volunteer-run organization. It helps find homes for rescued cats and kittens and educates people on how to properly care for animals.
