I grew up with Shelties in my home. When I moved out of my parent’s house and moved in with my husband, it sure was missing some extra love. I adopted a mutt pup from a non-kill shelter in Macon, GA, named Julius.  One of the workers there was a friend of mine on Facebook. She posted a poor adorable female sheltie on her page asking she was anyone’s dog. She was found on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. When no one responded to the signs or to her post on Facebook, I knew this baby was going to be mine. I messaged the woman and asked her to bring her to my house to test her with my cat and Julius.

She did just fine with the animals, but she did not walk well at all on my hardwood floor. In fact, she did not seem to know how to walk well on carpet, grass, or concrete. Those red dots on her paws in the photo are from her gnawing and licking as a nervous tick. She broke up one of the bumps on her foot during her first night with me. We took her to the vet the next day and found out she had an extreme case of heart-worms, an infection in her paws from her gnawing on them, and a few other minor issues. The vet said Sadie is probably between 7 and 9 years old, and that we might want to be cautious with treating the heart worms. We are currently slow killing them by using heart-worm preventatives.

The poor old gal has a nice, warm, cuddly home and new parents that take care of her and will never let her go. She knows sit, shake, lay down, roll over, and more. She’s a feisty old woman that plays like she’s still 3, and she barks like crazy when someone rings the doorbell. When she does not think you’ve provided sufficient petting, she’ll nudge your hand and huff at you. I love my Sadie Lady!
