It was January, just a couple months after moving into this apartment, when my nearly 19 year old kitty Sebastian suddenly passed with no warning. As heartbreaking as it was, I still had my other 12 year old cat.

I was one of the residents who was helping feed some strays in the area, and one cat started showing up on a regular basis for food and some loving.

I couldn’t take him in at the time because we also had a dog and had a two-pet limit. Technically, I was over with my two cats, but they always hid. This sweet male cat, though, kept coming back and trying to meet my other female kitty, Abbey.

Later that May, we ended up moving into a larger apartment. This was when I also learned how this male kitty was abandoned by his family. I saw him while moving over to our place, so I scooped him up and took him home to our other place and kept him on my porch for a week. That was it; I decided he was staying!

I took him to the vet to make sure he was fixed and had his shots. He now had his furever home, although little did I know that he was rescuing me twice over! He helped mend my broken heart from losing Sebastian, and then later on that August, Abbey also suddenly got ill and didn’t make it. I named him Kit-Kat at first, but it turned into Kitters.

He is such a fun and loving cat. He brought life back into my home and to me. He helped with everything I struggled through that first year, and continues to help to this day. So while I rescued him from being homeless, he rescued me right back with his love, purrs, head bonks, and nose licks. He’s my furever feline friend.
