Woman’s Wild Rescue Sparrow Is Convinced He’s A Dog

A sweet rescue sparrow named Happy is living his best life with his mama Maria in California after she saved him from being euthanized.

In an interview with GeoBeats Animals, Maria explained that she found Happy on May 6 of 2020. He was about one day old and was in the street. When Maria spotted him, she noticed his head was bleeding and he had a scab on his nose.

Maria knew Happy needed help if he was going to survive so she scooped him and took him to someone who specializes in animal rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, a veterinarian evaluated Happy and determined he wasn’t fit to be rehabilitated and released. Unless someone could step up and adopt the tiny bird, the vet was going to euthanize him.

Of course, Maria immediately volunteered to adopt Happy and began the intense process of raising a tiny chick. Every 20 minutes, she had to feed the little Sparrow and her days evolved around keeping him alive. She shared with GeoBeats Animals that Happy’s presence in her life actually came at the perfect time because her dog had just passed away and having Happy to care for gave a her a renewed sense of purpose and joy.

As it turns out, Happy was more than pleased to step up and take on the role of being the “dog of the house.” He may be a sparrow, but he’s convinced he’s part canine.

Maria described him as being like “a curious puppy.” He loves being pet and snuggled and comes when he’s called.
