Professional photographer Cristy Sartwell spends much of her career taking photos for weddings and engagement announcements. She was caught a bit off-guard when her 19-year-old daughter, Kennedy Sartwell, approached her to do something a bit different.
Kennedy and her boyfriend, Jake Terry, had just adopted a puppy and they had the unique idea to share their happy news in a fun and trendy way: with a gender reveal photo shoot.
How could Sartwell resist?
The puppy, Raven Michele, is thrilled to be apart of her new loving family but still couldn’t help behaving like a puppy… Sartwell told The Dodo, “We tried to do a posed family shoot, and she was having none of that, and that’s how the picture of her running toward me evolved. I said, ‘Just hold her, let me lay down.’ And I got her squeaker toy and got her attention.”
For the “pawfect” gender reveal moment, the couple put Raven inside a box filled with pink balloons. Of course, this proved tricky and they had to hurry the shots for Raven’s safety.
Next, Sartwell had the sweetest idea for the perfect family shot. “I said, ‘I think if you guys kiss, she’s going to look up at you, so just hold your kiss and I’ll take pictures,'” Cristy Sartwell said. And she was right! D’awww!
Kennedy LOVES the results and being a new mama to Raven. She told The Dodo, “It’s kind of like having a newborn. We’re up at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock and 6 o’clock in the morning taking her out to go to the bathroom. She’s whining a lot because she wants to play, she wants to eat, she wants to sleep.” But it, of course, is all worth it! And Cristy Sartwell LOVES being a doggy-grandma.
“We are very excited to have a new family member and I’m extremely grateful that we were able to find the time to fit in this gender reveal,” Cristy Sartwell said. “I think it’s wonderful the way people have embraced owning dogs and cats. I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of this kind of thing — I think it’s absolutely darling.”
We couldn’t agree more! This may just be Infinite Smiles Photography’s greatest project yet!
