Stray dogs are often suffering from an array of different medical conditions from their time on the streets.
Since they don’t have anyone to care for them and take them for regular vet visits, their health will often deteriorate.
The most common issues that you see amongst stray dogs are skin conditions like really bad flea infestations or cases of mange that have gotten out of control after being untreated for so long.
However, there was one stray dog who was seen sitting on the side of the road that looked to be in terrible condition. In an interview with The Dodo, the woman rescuing him said that he was one of the worst-looking strays that she’d seen in the whole of her rescue career.
She was shocked by how badly he looked. She even said that many people would probably take one look at him and assume that he should be humanely euthanized, but she said that when faced with such cases, it is important to look at the dog’s behavior. They will tell you with their behavior if they are willing to fight for their life or if they’re ready to find peace.
And this little pup, later named Raleigh, showed himself to be a fighter. He wasn’t ready to give up just yet, and he still had lots of life left to live.
As soon as he was brought out of the transporter’s car, he lifted up his head and showed everyone he had a strong will to live. Everyone rallied around Raleigh and helped him pull through.
Of course, it wasn’t easy. The poor dog was skin and bone and had badly damaged skin that required regular baths with a specially medicated shampoo as well as laser treatment.
But the transformation that he underwent over the coming weeks was nothing short of stunning. As it turned out, Raleigh had a lovely orange fur coat.
Still, there were some scars from his past that just wouldn’t go away, leading his rescuer to believe he must’ve been used as a bait dog at one point.
Still, Raleigh pulled through with such a gentle and loving disposition, it was incredible to think how much suffering he’d been through and he still managed to find a way to be a happy, cheerful pup.
