Most of us have been a single girl at a wedding before. And at every wedding, there is the bouquet toss – an archaic tradition meant to signal who the next woman to get married will be. We’ve all taken part in it at one point or another, and it’s not so much fun as it is dangerous – you sometimes get those determined girls who want that bit of good wedding juju.
However, for one bride, she decided to shake up the tradition a bit and breathe new life into the bouquet toss.
Rather than launch a flower bouquet at her single friends, bride Karen Marmo decided on tossing a plushie “Pusheen” cat. All her guests were invited to participate in the Pusheen toss since it would symbolize something different: the next person to adopt a cat of their own.
Marmo is a cat lover and already has two precious furbabies of her own at home. That is why she was inspired to do this toss as a way to not only incorporate her love for cats but to also be inclusive of all her guests.
Of course, there were plenty of Marmo’s guests who were excited to partake in this novel new idea. And that is certainly a competitive wedding toss I could get behind!
As the plush Pusheen was flung into the air, Marmo eagerly surveyed the sea of hands to see who the next, lucky cat owner would be.
As it turned out, Marmo’s friend Emma was the lucky winner, despite the fact that she’s allergic to cats.
As Marmo told The Dodo, since Emma wouldn’t be able to adopt a cat, she made a donation to an animal shelter instead.
Marmo’s clever idea is a great way to spread awareness about pet adoption, as well as spicing up an age-old tradition.
What do you guys think of the Pusheen toss? Is that something you’d like to see more of at weddings? Is it something you would incorporate into your own? Let us know!
