According to REBEL dog rescue, a foster group based in Niagara, they rescued Naomi on “the very day that she was set to be euthanized at a rural Texas shelter,” but they were unaware of her pregnancy. They identified Naomi as a Labrador mix, and, although she was found abandoned in the streets of Texas, she was very sweet and outgoing the moment they got her.

The shelter only got to know Naomi’s condition when they took her to get spayed, so they immediately posted that the pregnant dog needed a special foster. As Naomi was pregnant, the shelter needed to make sure that whoever fostered Naomi, they would give her a safe place to give birth and raise her puppies.

Amy Cranston, the amazing woman who adopted Naomi and her puppies, was able to give them that and more! Amy hosted the 1st birthday extravaganza, and Naomi and her puppies were able to celebrate their birthday happily and healthily. The birthday celebration included cakes and goodie bags for all individual puppies, and it sure was a crowd!

In Amy’s Instagram post, she wrote that 8 out of the 9 pups attended, the only one unable to attend was unwell and staying home.

“I think they do recognise each other, and they have this connection,” said Naomi’s owner.

In a statement given to CHCH News, Amy said that “Naomi was in a shelter in Texas. The overpopulation of dogs on the streets of Texas is huge. So the dogs are picked up but they are only usually in the shelter for a few days before they have to be euthanized because more dogs are coming in.”

One REBEL dog rescue staff member also celebrated with the families and tells in an interview that it’s their mission to save the dogs who are at risk of euthanasia.

“When people adopt with us, the dogs are fully vetted; spayed, neutered, microchipped, and all the vaccines. And, of course, the transport into Ontario as well,” said one of REBEL’s representatives at the venue. Since the foundation of the rescue center, they said that they have saved and found a home for over 600 dogs, but they say that the number of stray dogs are just skyrocketing.

“It’s actually gotten significantly worse since we started. We’ve been told by our partners [that] this is the worst it’s been in over a decade. The surrender rates at the shelter are just skyrocketing. Whether people can’t afford to keep their dog, the pandemic has brought a lot of challenges, and then there is a massive issue with overpopulation from lack of spaying and neutering,” said REBEL dog rescue.

Rescuer, Educator, Believer, Empowerer, Lover of dogs. REBEL Rescue is doing an amazing job with their mission. And Naomi’s really fortunate as she was able to get rescued and fostered by an amazing team and an amazing family.

The birthday party wasn’t just for the dogs but for the owners as well. One of the pups’ owners said, “I’m a little emotional today, quite honestly. It’s lovely to see them all running and enjoying one another. They’re just crazy.”
