One little piglet was willing to do whatever it takes to get to freedom, even jumping out of the back of a moving transport truck. The Dodo reports that a piglet was found unconscious on the side of a Pennsylvania highway after it jumped from the vehicle.
A family driving down the road noticed the helpless animal and immediately pulled over to help. The piglet was unconscious, but still breathing, so the family took it to an emergency animal clinic at the Adams County SPCA. The medical staff began caring for the animal and noticed that its temperature was extremely high at 107 degrees. The piglet was in grave condition and the staff was unsure she would make it.
The little animal had to spend two weeks recovering in intensive care. Slowly building her strength and making a recovery, the piglet was named Charlotte and plans were made for her to live out her life at the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Maryland.
Terry Cummings, director of Poplar Spring, explains that Charlotte was elated to begin her new life at the sanctuary.
“She is just starting to run and play,” Cummings told The Dodo. “Although her wounds are still healing, she should soon be completely healthy. We are so happy that this family turned around, and that the Adams County SPCA went above and beyond to do everything they could to save her life.”
In fact, the little piglet wasted no time in making new friends. Cummings explains that Charlotte has become attached to another rescued piglet named Oreo. The two have become inseparable and their friendship is proof that Charlotte has a happy life in store for her.
