New App Helps Find Lost Dogs By Scanning Their Nose Prints

Every dog is unique in their own way. As pet owners, we understand this.

We also try to take advantage of that originality so we can locate them if they become lost. Perhaps they have a particular coloring or spot that makes them stand out, and we include that in our description if we have to post flyers.

Thanks to the work of a South Korean startup called Petnow, we may be able to locate our dogs easier, and it all has to do with their noses. Their work uses artificial intelligence to scan your dog’s nose, and every dog is unique.

As the company explains on its website, when it comes to nose prints, you can think of them as being very similar to a human fingerprint. The technology can be used similarly to scanning a microchip, but it would be available to anyone rather than just to those that have the scanner.

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest fears that a person has is losing their beloved cat or dog. We may be afraid that we will never see them again, which is why we buy them special collars and have them microchipped.

Those are good places to start, but they are not without their problems. This new technology, which comes from Yonsei University, boasts a 99% accuracy.

What’s even better is it is being released through the Petnow app in the United States, Spain, and South Korea at no cost.

After taking a picture of your dog’s nose with your smartphone, it is registered on the app. Cat owners can also register their cat’s face, which serves the same purpose.

Once the picture is registered in the database, anyone can take a photo of a lost animal and see if there is a match. It will provide contact info for the owner if a match is found.

AI technology is used to capture a good picture of the dog’s nose, even if they are moving.

All that is necessary, at this point, is for as many people, shelters, and veterinarians to use the app as possible.
