There are thousands upon thousands of stray dogs roaming the streets all over the world. Because they are strays, they aren’t neutered or spayed and unfortunately reproduce, which puts even more dogs on the streets.
Many of the stray dogs don’t survive a life on the streets, let alone the puppies. But this story has somewhat happier ending. A stray mama dog gave birth to eleven puppies while living on the streets. She did her best to keep them alive for as long as she could, and she did a great job at it.
Luckily they were rescued, but sadly the mama dog died for reasons unknown. Another one of the puppies wound up passing away, but that still left ten puppies who were only a couple of weeks old without a mom.
Doggie Protective Services decided to step up and help these puppies. If they didn’t step up, the puppies would have ended up at a local LA city or county shelter where their chance of survival would be slim to none.
They knew without the proper nutrition and care that these pups wouldn’t survive. They were still so young and needed their mother, so the next best thing was for the rescuers to hand-rear the puppies themselves.
DPS staff took care of these puppies around the clock, bottle-feeding them every 4-6 hours. It sure was a lot of work, but all worth it in the end. The puppies grew bigger and stronger each day, and were all give a clean bill of health.
And best of all? Since filming, all ten of them have found forever homes! This wouldn’t have happened without the help of DPS.
In the video below, you can see the pups grow before your eyes and even see before and after pictures of the puppies with their new families!
There are plenty of pups like these who are stuck in shelters across the country. If you’re interested in adding a furry member to your family, consider adopting! You could make some lonely puppies like these very happy!
