Adorably Fat Cat Goes Viral After Loudly Protesting Workout Routine

Half of America’s cats are overweight or obese, according to a study from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.

But Cinder–aka “Cinder-block”–is a very special fat cat who has inspired thousands of fans with her weight loss journey.

Cinder first became famous in late 2019, when the fat cat went viral after loudly protesting her workout routine.

At the time, the 21.8-pound cat had been surrendered by her previous owner, then adopted by a Washington state vet determined to help the obese cat trim down.

But Cinderblock wasn’t happy about these well-meaning efforts to help her lose weight.

The cat’s feelings became abundantly clear when she was first placed on an underwater treadmill. The vet offered gentle words of encouragement, but Cinder only howled in protest.

Many people were quick to commiserate with the fat cat online. After all, who doesn’t hate going to the gym? “No no no no…. I hate workouts, too,” one sympathetic user commented.

According to Cinder’s vet, the rescue cat exercises on an underwater treadmill because she has arthritis. The underwater treadmill is a way for the elderly, overweight cat to exercise without aggravating her joint pain.

Since then, the Bellingham, Washington, cat has begun to see the results of her healthy diet/exercise plan.

One year after she was rescued, the vet posted a cute video of Cinder’s gotcha day, which also coincided with the one-year anniversary of Cinder’s new weight loss journey.

“Happy gotcha/birthday to Cinder!” Northshore Veterinary Hospital posted on Facebook, sharing a video of a much slimmer cat. “Today she is 12, as close as we can figure, and it’s also the 1-year anniversary of her starting her new healthier mobile life! She began a year ago at 21.8#, and to date, she is down to16.8#. Woot!!

Cinder is still losing weight, although she thankfully still possesses her “cattitude” in abundance. A December 2021 posting flaunted Cinder’s much slimmer physique during a recent weigh-in.

By that point, the fat cat had lost almost 7 pounds–and gained a significant number of fans inspired by her weight loss journey.

“You go Cinder!” one user commented. “I’ve been following your journey since the beginning and I’m proud of you.”

“You inspire me, Cinder!” another person agreed.
