Michael Kors just announced the company (including Jimmy Choo) is going 100% fur-free. The fur-free movement is gaining momentum as companies and consumers are evolving to include more ethical standards.
This has been an epic year, with many luxury fashion brands going fur-free. Michael Kors, a luxury design brand that has been creating clothing and accessories since 1981, will join Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Armami, and many others as a fur-free brand. Fashion brands are realizing they can still create unique looks without having to use animal fur.
“Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur,” said designer Michael Kors. “We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February.”
Every year, over a billion animals are killed for their pelts. Fur trade is a brutal industry full of suffering animals. The fur-free movement is a huge win for rabbits, foxes, minks, and many others. This is a huge step towards a more humane world.
PJ Smith, HSUS’s Senior Manager of Fashion Policy, states, “Today’s consumers want fashionable, luxurious clothing and accessories that also align with their social values and Michael Kors’s fur-free move makes it a leader in that regard.”
What a great way to end the year, with another fashion company going fur-free! The fashion industry is taking note of the desires of the consumer for a fur-free product that aligns with their ethics. This is the future of fashion, and it will benefit animals immensely.
