One tragedy turned into a miracle after a mama dog that lost all of her puppies went on to rescue a litter of orphaned puppies.
It happened at Ruff Start Rescue in Minnestoa when a mama dog named Poppy passed away shortly after giving birth to a litter of 10 puppies.
According to KARE11 News, rescuers feared for the puppies’ survival. With such a large litter of now-orphaned puppies, they needed to think fast to give them the best chance of survival.
KARE11 News reported that foster parent Lexi Johnson recalled the first evening with the puppies. She said, “We frantically started figuring out our next move with the babies. Another volunteer was over until 11:30 that night helping bottle feed. And throughout the evening my husband and I were up every 3 hours getting food in their bellies… and it was taking over 1.5 hours each time.”

Thankfully, it all worked out because the Johnsons ended up taking in a mama dog who’d just lost all of her puppies.
The mama dog, Pepper, immediately went to the new puppies and laid down with them. Miraculously, the little puppies started nursing on her!
Pepper accepted all 10 puppies and they each nursed and accepted her back.
They described it as being “nothing short of a miracle.”
