Mama Chimpanzee Has Emotional Reunion With Her Newborn Baby After 2 Days Apart

A mother chimpanzee shared an emotional reunion with her newborn baby after the pair had to be separated for two days following the baby’s birth.

Veterinarians and obstetrician/gynecologists performed an emergency C-section on Mahale at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas after her natural labor stopped progressing.

After the baby was delivered, he wasn’t getting enough oxygen, so he had to be taken from Mahale in order to receive proper treatment at the zoo’s hospital.

This meant that Mahale had to be away from her newborn, a male named Kucheza, for two days, which was very hard for her.

Thankfully, after her treatment, Kucheza was deemed well enough to be reunited with his mother.

Zookeepers kept a close eye as the two were reintroduced, and the moment was just as emotional as you’d expect.

Mahale was so relieved to have her baby back in her arms. She scooped Kucheza up out of his blanket and cradled him to her chest while rubbing him and giving him kisses.

“[The video] is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever seen,” Jennica King, zoo communication director, told Fox News. “She knows it’s her baby laying there. The baby is being very still. She’s looking at it like, ‘what’s going on?’ And once he moves, you see the relief and the love and just, oh my gosh, it’s just amazing.”

Mahale has been an amazing mother and it is clear that she loves her new son so much.

The zoo says the pair has been inseparable since their reunion.
