Lonely Horse Calf Befriends Gentle Golden Retrievers

Most of us would say that we have plenty of friends, but many of those friends just tend to be acquaintances. They are those that come into our lives and go out without having all that much of an impact on it.

Something similar can happen in the animal world, and there may be some young animals that are in need of a friend as well. However, it can be difficult to connect for some reason or another.

Such was the case with Teddy. According to The Dodo, when his mother, Eleanor, was rescued from an auction, they never thought that she would be able to have any young ones. After all, she was 19 years old when they bought her.

It wasn’t long after she came to the R&R Ranch Miniature Horse Sanctuary, however, that they found out she was already pregnant. Before long, little Teddy Bear was born, but he was premature and needed special care.

It took some time before Teddy was able to get back to the sanctuary, but he quickly started to gain strength. Eleanor protected him and guarded him from other horses, but this didn’t have a good effect on Teddy.

Because he was always being protected from other horses, none of the other horses wanted to play with him. He had plenty of energy, but the horses stayed away because when they got near, Eleanor would rush at them.

The staff at the ranch thought of something that may be able to help. They brought in some golden retrievers and introduced them to Teddy. They had five golden retrievers at home, and they knew that they would hit it off immediately.

Suddenly, Teddy was enjoying some playtime, and it didn’t just stay with the golden retrievers. Before long, other little horses came over to play with Teddy and give him all the attention he wanted.
