Linemen Cat Calendar Shows Male’s Softer Side

Who says men don’t like cats? According to the Newark Advocate, Dave Seel of American Electric Power (AEP) wanted to promote the image of men with cats and help felines in need at the same time. The result was a calendar featuring his fellow linemen holding cats.

Seel’s interest in cats stemmed from his experiences finding and rescuing cats while out in the field working on power lines. Subsequently, he developed a relationship with the animals and staff at the Licking County Humane Society in Heath, Ohio.

“I loved (the idea) because they are these macho men,” Lori Carlson, executive director of the Humane Society, told the source. “It’s young men and middle-agers saying it’s cool to have a cat.”

The black and white Lineman of Lions calendar features various employees of AEP in front of company equipment. The calendar contains numerous cat facts throughout its pages and costs $20.

The Licking County Humane Society cares for shelter dogs and cats while facilitating adoption applications. Additionally, the organization is running a special where the adoption cost is reduced to $40 during the month of October. The shelter also offers foster care services and a pet food pantry.
