Summertime means long days at the lake. When the temperatures rise there is nothing better than a dip in the cool water. Whether you like to relax on a boat or by swimming, Fido can join in the fun.
Some dogs you would think are part fish because they love the water so much. It is refreshing and cooling for them as well on hot summer days. Keep Fido safe and entertained with these tips and essentials. Long live summer!
Water-Filled Fun Activities
Boating or Kayaking
Boats are a fun way to enjoy the water as the breeze blows through your hair. Fido would love to join in on the fun. Just like how it is advised that everyone onboard wear a life jacket, so should Fido. Just in case you are anchored to catch some rays and Fido decides to jump into the water. There are dog life vests designed for all sizes.
EzyDog Doggie Floatation Device vests are designed with a reflective strip so your dog is easily seen. There is also a handle across the back so you can pick up your dog if needed. The lightweight design will keep your dog safe all day while splashing in the water.
Some dogs have pink skin under their fur and are more sensitive to the sun. They can get sunburned easily. You can get them SPF clothing to help protect their skin. The material is lightweight and provides SPF 40. Combine that with keeping them in the shade and Fido will be one happy dog.
Fetch In The Water
There are tons of floatable toys that you can toss in the water and let Fido retrieve. Just be sure the toy is meant for the water and floats. That way you do not need to worry about your dog diving too deep. Another fun game to play on the beach is a game of frisbee with your dog. He can splash through the water as he leaps for the flying disc.
Try an octopus floating toy to entice Fido to play. FouFit Aqua Friends Dog Toy is as fun as it is adorable. The mesh wrapped spiky ball softly massages your dog’s gums. It is a win-win!
If your dog tears everything to shreds, then this flying disc is for him. Petsport® Firehose Disk Dog Toy is made out of real industrial-strength firehose. The disk can be thrown like a frisbee for hours of fun.
After all the games there is nothing like a dip in the lake. If you are planning on swimming with your dog be sure they are prepared with a life vest and goggles. There are googles made just for dogs to protect their eyes from harmful sunlight and when in the water.
Vet recommended Red Doggles® ILS Protective Eyewear are made out of flexible rubber frame with foam lining for comfort and anti-fog, shatterproof 100% UV block lenses.
It may seem a bit odd at first to put goggles on your dog, but their eyes will thank you. Just think of them as dog sunglasses that are waterproof.
After a fun-filled day in the water you may need to dry Fido off. Unless you like the smell of wet dog in your house or car, you will need to make sure Fido is dry. A super absorbent microfiber towel will do the trick. It is soft and absorbs water quickly. The best part is it is machine washable, so just toss it in the wash when you get home.
Enjoy the water with your furry best friend. Make everyday a “dog day” this summer.
