After seeing pictures of his 2-year-old-cat, Kitty, sliced to pieces, pierced with needles, and posed with a mouthful of drugs, owner Aaron Nastor was more than distraught.
No animal should have to suffer such a fate.
The gruesome images were posted to social media by 26-year-old Shariah Jessamyn Metzger and 29-year-old Jace Lee Greene, who have since been arrested on charges of improper burial of an animal.
Kitty’s mutilation has horrified the Asheville community, and police are now searching for a third suspect in the case, Zackery Eugene Greene, WLOS reports.
According to warrants, the perpetrators left Kitty’s body in the parking lot of a grocery store. Soon after, images of the dead cat began circulating on Instagram. Veronica Coit, of the Asheville Cat Weirdos Emergency Fund, saw the pictures and called the police.
“To think of what these monsters did to a cat that was sweet and friendly is awful,” Coit told WLOS.
The Asheville Police Department addressed the killing in a public release:
Naster has been appreciative of the APD’s help in bringing Kitty’s killers to justice, and maintains he was not acquainted with the three suspects before they were taken into custody.
“I just want to thank the Asheville police department for their diligent work,” Naster told WLOS. “Asheville is a community of love and support. So, thank you, and rest in peace Kitty.”
