The group of seniors in this video posted by Now This are cuddling kittens during social hour, preparing them to be adopted by some other loving family. It’s clear from the expressions of both the kittens and the seniors that this is a mutually beneficial arrangement.
“Kitten Social Hour was started by Anchorage Animal Care and Control and brings rescue kittens to cuddle with residents at Providence Health & Services Alaska,” Now This wrote.
“I hope this goes like crazy and that all nursing homes will start this program,” wrote Fern Chavers.
“I’m going there when I get older ❤,” commented Donna Bourcier.
“This is exactly what I want to do the last few years of my life,” wrote Janelle Baune.

This event began when volunteer cat foster mom Debbie Sis, who also works in a foster home, me a patient who seemed in great need of a comforting touch. The patient missed her cats, so Sis asked Anchorage Animal Care and Control if she could bring her two foster cats in to visit her.
“Talking to Debbie and [hearing about] what it did for that woman, we thought, ‘This is something we’d like to continue,'” Laura Atwood, AACC PR coordinator, told KTVA.
According to volunteer cat foster mom Debbie Sis, “there are scientific studies about how purring is so healing for us and it lowers blood pressure, grounds us,” she told KTVA. “You can compartmentalize and put your troubles away for a while while you’re playing with a kitten.”
“Just to see the smiles on their faces and how relaxed and content they look as they’re holding those kittens, I mean how could that not make your day,” Atwood said.
