Two teenage girls walked into a local pet supply store in Michigan holding a 5-week-old kitten. The girls asked the store manager to take the kitten, but he advised them to bring the kitten to a rescue group. The tiny kitten was not brought to a rescue, but abandoned to fend for himself.
“About half an hour later, one of the employees was outside on break and heard the kitten crying,” Deanne Iovan, director of Ferndale Cat Shelter, told Love Meow. Ferndale Cat Shelter was contacted by the pet store after they found the kitten abandoned in a shopping cart.
The kitten was wrapped in a blanket roasting in the hot summer sun. They quickly brought the kitten inside and waited for someone from the rescue to arrive. The tiny kitten was meowing nonstop. Deanne dropped what she was doing when she received the call and headed straight to the store.
The starving kitten was so tiny that he fit in one of Deanne’s hands. A volunteer immediately stepped forward to foster the adorable kitten. “We gave him a bath with Dawn soap and treated him for worms,” states Deanne.
The tabby kitten sprung back after a few days of food and a loving environment. His eyes opened wide and his ears stood up straight. He loves attention and never wanders far from his foster family. “He’s an absolute joy and the Foster’s children named him Chihiro!”
The once struggling kitten is now thriving thanks to his loving foster family.
