This tiny newborn rescue kangaroo named Lisa was taken in by Our Haven Wildlife Shelter after she was orphaned at just three months old. The shelter is doing a great job raising Lisa, and she’s getting round-the-clock care.
Three months old is way too young to be without her mother’s pouch, as red kangaroos don’t leave the pouch until their eight months old, and grey kangaroos stay until they’re eleven months old.
Because Lisa didn’t have the warmth and protection of her mother’s pouch, they decided to make one for her so she’d feel safe and right at home. They put together a makeshift pouching using comfortable, soft blankets, and Lisa loved it!
Another thing that kangaroo joey’s get from their mother’s pouch is natural oils for their skin. Since Lisa is also without this, they give her frequent oil treatments to prevent her skin from getting dry.
She’s finally starting to open her eyes and she’s doing great. She gets bottle-fed six times a day, and soon enough she’ll start growing big and strong. Once she is old enough, the shelter will hopefully be able to release her back into the wild.
But until then, the shelter staff will continue to shower her with love and do the best job they can at raising her.
It’s sad that little Lisa is without a mother, but thanks to Our Haven, she’s getting a second chance. Watch how adorable she is in the video below:
