Last Friday was a sad day for police officers in Chula Vista, California. They lost one of their own to an undisclosed medical condition. The emotional goodbye was shared on social media.

Griffen, a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois, was a K9 partner to Officer Chancellor. They would patrol the streets on the night shift and spent every day together. Griffen was well known and would make public appearances at events in town.

Officer Chancellor and family were with Griffen when he passed. Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) tells Fox 13, “It is hard to overstate the bond that a K-9 and his handler have when working long hours in dangerous situations. CVPD’s law enforcement family extends deepest sympathies to his partner officer.”

“On behalf of all the women and men at the Chula Vista Police Department, thank you, Griffen, for your service. You will be missed.”

CVPD tweeted this on Sunday.
