Shelter Dogs & Cats Get A Second Chance On Our June Flights To Freedom

Every year, thousands of perfectly adoptable shelter pets die in Louisiana, where crowded, underfunded shelters are often forced to turn to euthanasia. This deadly reality puts heartworm-positive dogs at especially high risk, particularly in shelters without the means to provide for their care.

This tragic fate awaited Sammy, a loving dog who was surrendered to a shelter when his family moved away. Sammy was a very good boy and eager to get adopted, but he also had heartworm disease–-making it very unlikely he’d live long enough to find a new home.

Thankfully, Sammy’s fortunes changed when he landed a spot on one of our Flights to Freedom, which save lives by flying at-risk shelter pets from the South to regions where demand for adoption is high.

On June 18 and 19, Sammy will join adoptable dogs and cats flying to new lives in Florida and Michigan, where they’ll be adopted in days.

Sammy’s flight will also include other heartworm-positive dogs who once risked euthanasia in Louisiana. Before this flight, their conditions gave them a slim chance of survival, but now these lucky pups will get to experience the joys of a loving home.

But Flights to Freedom can’t take off without your support. Just $5 will help us fund 125 air miles for an at-risk shelter pet traveling June’s Flights to Freedom, while larger donations allow us to fly even more shelter pets to safety. Your lifesaving donation will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $35,000, thanks to PEDIGREE Foundation and Mars Petcare.
