German Shepherd Found Crammed In Tiny Wire Cage Gets Second Chance On Flight To Freedom

A rural Louisiana shelter received an anonymous call about a large number of dogs being kept in deplorable conditions in and around a trailer. Rescuers arrived to find muddy kennels and dog in crates around the property. They were heartbroken when they found a young German shepherd crammed into a tiny wire cage made for a small dog.

The poor dog was unable to stand, sit, or move inside the crate. He was clearly deprived of food as well as he was skin and bones.

He was taken in by Iberville Parish Animal Shelter who told us, “After removing Max from his kennel we realized just how neglected he had been. His paws laid flat which was a good indicator of no exercise and lack of nutrition. His coat was dull and his body was poor. His long fur made it hard to tell but Max weighed in at 32 pounds and every bone could be felt from his shoulder blades to his hip bones.”

The estimated 7-month-old pup quickly started to gain weight once he received proper and regular meals. He hasn’t let his rough start to life change his friendly demeanor. Max is a sweet boy and will be one of the lucky passengers on this month’s Flight to Freedom.
