At only 3.6 ounces, this tiny kitten was found in the San Jose downtown area. “He was turned in over the counter at San Jose shelter as a solo kitten with radial agenesis/hypoplasia,” Foster Mom Joyce told Love Meow.
Thankfully, Saving Grace Rescue (SGR) learned all about Joey and rescued him JUST in time! He was scheduled to be euthanized that day!
At just one day old, this little one could fit into the palm of Foster Mom Joyce’s hand. He’s the smallest kitten she has ever fostered and needed around the clock care. But Joyce willingly, and happily, took him in.
Also, Joey is not the only kitten with bent legs that Joyce has fostered. She also fostered, then adopted, a cat named Kanga Roo. Kanga Roo was born with the exact same condition as Joey and because of SGR, she was saved just in the nick of time, as well.
When Kanga Roo first met Joey, she sniffed him over while he was asleep and gave him gentle kisses. It’s almost like Kanga Roo understood that Joey was a lot like her and needed her attention and love.
Joey has to be bottle-fed often, and Kanga Roo likes to be there to help. They are developing a wonderful bond. Joey is growing bigger and bigger too!
Joyce said, “I fall in love with Baby Joey over and over again… His purrs and his ability to make biscuits make me swoon.”
As Joey grows, he will have a great support team rooting for his well-being. Thanks to fosters like Joyce, kitties like Joey have a real fighting chance!
