James Xuereb of Ontario loved his dogs, Nemo and Lucy, more than anything and was absolutely heartbroken when they recently passed away. One died from congestive heart failure, while the other of old age.
Xuereb was extremely upset and when his two furbabies passed away, they definitely took a big chunk of his heart with them. His family hated seeing him like that and wanted to do something to cheer him up. That’s when they decided to surprise him with a puppy.
They weren’t sure how he would react since he was still so sad over the loss of his dogs, but after putting a lot of thought into it, they thought it was a good idea. Xuereb kept saying their surviving dog, Mini, needed a friend, so the family thought it was the perfect time to surprise him.
They wrote Xuereb a heartwarming card from the new puppy’s perspective. The card read: “Hi, my name is Lumo. I am a boy Bichon. No, I am not Nemo, nor could I ever be Lucy. My mommy bought me to bring some happiness back into your life. So as we walk on this journey of life together, may we create our own wonderful memories and rekindle the beautiful memories that you had with Nemo and Lucy. Love, Lumo.”
Xuereb’s wife, Wanda, and her kids decided to name the puppy Lumo because it was a combination of Nemo and Lucy’s names. They knew Xuereb would be happy and shed some tears during the surprise, but they were blown away by how emotional he actually got.
Xuereb covered his face and began crying as soon as he started reading the card. It was obvious how much Nemo and Lucy meant to him and how heartbroken he truly was to have lost them. As he continued reading, the tears fell even more. Then they walked out with Lumo and handed him to Xuereb. He hugged Lumo as tears strolled down his face.
By the looks of it, Xuereb is going to make a great dog dad to Lumo, just as he was to his other pups. What a thoughtful gift from his family. We hope Lumo will help fill the void in his heart! Watch his heartwarming surprise in the video below, but make sure you have a box of tissues on hand!
