Blind Rescue Dog Finally Goes Home After 15 Months At The Shelter

When a dog enters a shelter, staff and volunteers generally hope to find a proper placement for the dog ASAP, either in a foster home or a loving forever home.

Rescue placements don’t always happen quickly though, and in kill shelters, that means dogs who don’t find homes fast enough are tragically put to sleep.

In no-kill shelters, dogs who can’t find homes are often left to live in kennels for weeks or months until a family finally comes along to adopt them.

When a 5-year-old blind Collie named Jacko arrived at Many Tears Animal Rescue, staff were hopeful they’d find him a home quickly. However, the days slowly turned into weeks and then months and Jacko remained in the kennel.

As time passed, the rescue became even more determined to find Jacko a loving family to call his own. It wouldn’t be easy though.

The rescue shared on Facebook that Jacko is “very cuddly and loving with those he knows, but can be mistrustful of those he doesn’t know.” They added that Jacko really needed a family to call his own, but they wouldn’t let him go to just anybody. They wanted him to go to a home that’d be a proper fit for him.

“Jacko is looking to live with one special person as an only dog and would prefer a rural home with a large garden where he can run free,” the rescue said.

15 months passed and finally, the grand day arrived: Jacko was adopted!

The rescue shared the news on TikTok, writing: “Very exciting news about our lovely Jacko! After one whole year of being at Many Tears, of getting excited waiting for staff to come and see him throughout the day, patiently waiting for cuddles and a fuss and some sneaky cheese, Jacko now gets to run free in his very own field, with his very own human. Every single day!”

The rescue added, “He now has complete freedom, a dedicated owner, and even some furry friends! No one deserves it any more than our lovely Jacko. Happy gotcha day!”
