Surfers look forward to the days when the sea is a little rough, so waves reach the perfect height. A flamingo picked the wrong day for a swim, and was exhausted after swimming against the strong current. The bird was on the verge of drowning.

Franco Guicciardi and Luca, two experienced Italian surfers, were used to seeing animals in the water, but one day noticed a flamingo struggling to stay afloat. The wind that day mixed with the strong current were a recipe for disaster.

The two were out on an excursion in the sea by the Forte Village Resort in Santa Margherita Di Pula, Italy. They immediately paddled out on their board to rescue the struggling bird.

Once they reached the exhausted flamingo, they gently placed it on the board. Slowly they paddled back to shore. One of the men gently stroked the flamingo and kept it calm, while the other made sure they made it safely back to shore.

After reaching the shore, the bird was carried onto the sand. They immediately called a vet to exam the bird. The flamingo was treated and is going to make a full recovery. Soon the feathered beauty will fly away and onto another adventure.

Guicciardi shared the heroic rescue on his Instagram page stating, “Thanks to those who contributed to this positive action.”
