Invisible Shelter Dog Is Learning To Trust Humans Again
Andrea Powell
Shelter life is stressful for all dogs, but some are so overwhelmed with the new sights, sounds and strangers that they only feel safe hiding in the back of their kennel. These dogs are sadly overlooked even though they are in desperate need of a quiet and loving home.
Meet Carlie or as she is better known as "The Invisible Dog". She arrived roughly six months ago at Humane Society of Broward County and spent the first few months hiding at the back of her kennel. While the shelter is unsure of her history, it is clear that she was mistreated and lost trust in humans.

After being passed by again and again, staff members worked with the timid dog to show her that not all humans are bad. Through positive reinforcement in the form of tasty treats, Carlie is starting to come out of her shell.
The shelter posted a video on TikTok to help find Carlie a forever home and to show her progress. They shared how she got her nickname, "Carlie has been waiting for a home for almost half a year 💔 That’s longer than any other dog at our shelter 😔 Sadly, Carlie used to hide in the back of her kennel, where adopters could not see her, so she went overlooked for months. She was so hidden that she became known as the invisible dog 💔".
They also shared her progress and wrote, "Carlie is now learning to trust and is coming to the front of her kennel. She’s even getting the courage to ask for treats with her paw!"
She has her whole life ahead of her and is ready to find her forever family. According to the note on her kennel, she prefers women and is slow to warm up to men. She would do best as an only pet to gain confidence and get all the love and attention she deserves.
