Okay, so everyone thinks their dog is super — their dog is super cute, or their dog is super cuddly, or super energetic, or super athletic… But that isn’t exactly what we’re talking about here.
We’re talking about superpowers here, people!
Fine, so our dogs aren’t what we tend to think of as superheroes. They don’t have the gift of flight, nor the gift of god-like strength, nor can they shapeshift. We get it. But look, dogs have some tremendous abilities that make them superheroes in our eyes. Take this tidbit, for instance, which you will not find on the quiz below:
Did you know that dogs can detect diseased beehives?
Because they can. This specific disease is called “foulbrood” and, according to Psychology Today, is caused by “bacteria that form microscopic spores that can survive for decades and can spread quickly from hive to hive, killing all of the bee larvae.”
Foulbrood is responsible for a severe drop in managed honey bee colonies, from 5 million in the 1940s to only 2.5 million in 2010. One way the comeback is being made is by bee keepers keeping trained “bee dogs” on staff that have been trained to detect the disease’s scent — these dogs “can inspect the same 50 colonies that would take a person a full day, in just 20 minutes with virtually perfect accuracy.”
Pretty super, huh? There’s plenty more where that came from! See how much you know about your dog’s superpowers by taking the quiz we’ve put together for you below.
Enjoy, and be sure to share your results with all of your friends!
