Police Dog Who Nabbed 200+ Suspects Dies

When a Belgian Malinois named Hutch retired from the Boynton Beach Police Department in Florida in 2014, he had certainly done his duty for his community. The devoted career dog had helped police apprehend more than 200 criminal suspects in his time on the force. The crimes ranged from burglary to attempted murder, and Hutch helped thwart them all and catch those responsible.

When he wasn’t nabbing the bad guys, Hutch could be found showing off his endearing personality in the community and lapping up the affection of residents, particularly the children. Hutch and his handler, Officer Mark Sohn, also won first place in the 2012 South Florida Police K9 Competition and competed in it again in 2013.

Hutch spent his retirement living in the home of Officer Sohn and his family. He lived for about four peaceful senior years before passing away on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018. He was 13 years old.

“He was a loyal trustworthy crimefighter who protected me, my fellow officers, and the community,” said Officer Sohn.

In memory of their beloved K9, the Boynton Beach Police Department put together a video honoring Hutch’s life and service. They posted the video to Facebook with this caption:

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved retired K9, Hutch. Hutch served the City of Boynton Beach Government from 2007-2014, apprehending more than 200 criminals during his storied career. Please keep his partner, Officer Mark Sohn, and his family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for your service, buddy. We love you and will miss you.”
