It can be difficult to live under quarantine and you may feel a little lonely. One thing that you can do to help combat the loneliness is to get a temporary pet.
At the Harris County Animal Shelter, a search is on for fosters who will take care of many of the animals that have been coming in over the past few days. They are getting too crowded to handle all of the animals.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused them to change their policy and now they are following social distancing guidelines by bringing the dog to your car. Doing so helps to protect you and the members of their staff.
Residents of Harris, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller counties can know foster a pet through HGAS for any length of time.
In order to take part in this program, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Spring Break Foster” in the subject line. Let them know if you can foster a dog under 30 pounds or over 30 pounds.

When the dogs are prepared to be picked up curbside, fosters will need to download the QLess app and sign up for an account.
Check-in when you are ready and then drive to the shelter at 612 Canino Road to pick up your new furry friend.
The shelter will also be providing dog food if you need it.
