Mississippi Hotel Lets Guests Snuggle With Rescued Pets

One of the worst things about travel is leaving your pets behind, but one hotel has come up with a uniquely dog-friendly solution.

Home2Suites in D’Iberville, Mississippi, has teamed up with the Humane Society of South Mississippi to create a slumber party program that effectively lets guests rent a dog and a room at the same.

Guests are invited to mingle with any of the adoptable rescues living on-site any time after check-in. They can even bring the dogs up to their rooms, take them on walks, and/or take them on day trips, which could include a number of beautiful Gulf-area beaches.

“Our guests have so much of everything they need to make it home, but they were missing one element: their animals,” Home2Suites Director of Sales Teresa Johnston told WXXV25. “So, we thought why not bring two great things together: a great property with extended stay and an animal.”

Nor do you have to stay at the hotel to participate. Any dog lover is invited to stop by and say hello, according to Johnston, which is a win-win both in terms of both hotel foot traffic and adoptable rescues looking for a new home.

So far, 9 rescued dogs have been adopted since this adorable program started in October, and Johnston hopes this number will only grow. “Putting people together with loving animals is what we want to do,” she says.

“You know, take a walk, try him on, is he the missing link in your family? Come in like that and I guarantee that you will be delighted that you did,” she says. After all, plenty of tourists go home with tee-shirts and fridge magnets, but a rescued dog might actually be the best souvenir.
