Adult Shelter Pets Anxiously Wait To Be Picked For “Holiday Sleepover”

It is the “most wonderful time of the year”, or at least that is what shelter pets continue to hear. Sadly, many shelters are in crisis mode as pets continue to arrive and adopters decrease.

Several pets have been waiting for months to find their person and some are losing hope.

Each animals wants to find a home for the holidays, so Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has come up with a way to help find their adult pets experience the joy of the holiday – even if it is only for a short time.

The shelter announced their “Holiday Sleepover” program which will allow select adult dogs, cats, and even rabbits to spend two weeks in a home with a family over the holidays. They will get a much-needed break from shelter life and will hopefully win the hearts of their foster family.

“No-one wants to spend the holiday’s alone, especially a shelter pet . Our Home for the Holidays sleepover program allows our most overlooked pets the chance to leave the shelter and feel loved during the holidays,” wrote the shelter.

Pets available for the program have a “Holiday Sleepover” sticker on their kennel and are ready to head home on December 20. A video featuring some of the pets in the program was shared on TikTok.

Perla, a four-year-old English bulldog, will bring you joy with her body wiggles and adorable face. While cats like Mistletoe are eager to leave the loud noises behind and curl up with you on the couch as you watch your favorite holiday movies.

People interested in participating are encouraged to visit the shelter to meet the good boys and girls. The best gift you can give a shelter pet is a loving home. Holidays are all about traditions and we can’t think of a better tradition than fostering a shelter pet for a couple of weeks or until they find a forever home.
